Ever since she was young, Dr. Georgette Savvides had a desire to become a psychologist. She majored in Psychology at the American University in Cairo, in 1995. Henceforth, Dr. Savvides started her journey as a therapist offering individuals and groups psychological support in every field, with a goal to change the community’s misconception about seeking psychotherapy.
In addition to speaking five languages; Arabic, Greek, English, French and Italian, Dr. Savvides received MSc. in Clinical and Public Health Aspects of Addiction from King’s College, Institute of Psychiatry National Addition Center, UK, and a Conversation Diploma in Psychology from the Open University in London, UK in 2002. Between 2001- 2004, she obtained her professional Doctorate in Psychology with a specialization in Adult Clinical Psychology from City University, UK, followed by a Level A & B Competence Certificate in Occupational and Organizational Consultancy and Psychometric Testing from the same university- City University- in UK, between 2005- 2006. From 2007 to 2012, Dr. Savvides received her second professional doctorate from Southern California University in the USA, with a specialization in Occupational/Business Psychology.
Dr. Savvides worked for different institutions between the UK, Greece and Egypt acquiring experience, training and research. She worked as Head of the Psychology Department at the Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357. Her extensive experience varied between several fields such as dealing with drug and alcohol abuse, behavioral and psychiatric disorders, eating disorders, family and couple counseling. In addition, she lectured and provided post graduate training, workshops, presentations, as well as supervision to post graduate students.
In 2009, Dr. Georgette opened her own center, Psychealth Counseling and Training Services, using a CBT approach in healing. The center includes a training department with educational programs that she designs and supervises. Dr. Savvides currently practices occupational psychology in several projects with leading corporate sectors; handling recruitment, team building, capacity building, training and consultancy.
Currently, Dr. Savvides offers her Psych-cinema service, which aims at offering psychological counseling service for actors, writers, directors and filmmakers who are eager to introduce real characters through their cinematic work. The service includes collective workshops for filmmakers with specific or direct consultancy. The utmost goal behind this new service is to build the interface between film and psychology, shape the characters to meet realistic standards, support and provide the research based material for the portrayal of psychological themes in film, series and plays and train the actors into realistically mimicking characters with psychological buildup or difficulties. The Psych-cinema service started with Naseby Wi Easmitik TV drama which stars Hany Salama, Nicole Saba and Dorra. Most recently, Dr. Savvides is collaborating with the producing company of the new TV Drama 30 Youm that stars Asser Yassin, Bassel Khayyat and Walid Fawwaz. The new TV drama is set to join the race of Ramadan 2017.
Since 2005, Dr. Savvides has been writing articles for different magazines including Cleo, Daily News, Diva, Insight, Cairo East and Campus. She also appeared as a guest speaker in a number of Radio and TV shows such as; the Egyptian Nile Group Channels (Nile Life, Nile Variety and Nile Family), MBC Group channels, Orbit, CBC, DMC, Elnahar and Nogoum FM. Most recently, Dr. Savvides has collaborated with LEO Media Productions in a new TV show that presents psychological problems that may be experienced by everyone through real stories. The TV show is set to air soon on TV. Recently, Dr. Savvides has published the Arabic copy of her book 'My Journey' through Al Kotob Khan. The book is an autobiography of her career path as a successful psychologist.
